Charges made after 900g of cocaine found in shopping bag

A shopping bag containing almost a kilogram of cocaine has been seized and a man has been charged after a car was stopped by police close to the Dartford Crossing.

The Fiat 500 was seen acting suspiciously during the evening of Friday 17 April 2020 and at 5.45pm was stopped by officers on approach to the crossing from the Kent side.

On search of the vehicle a plastic shopping bag was uncovered containing white powder, which was later confirmed to be around 900 grams of cocaine, with a street value of up to £90,000.

A large quantity of cash totalling £12,500 was later uncovered following a search of the driver’s home address and a number of mobile phones were also seized.

Marian Dinca, aged 26, of Ambleside Drive, Leicester was arrested and an investigation was carried out by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

On Monday 20 April he appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court to face charges of possession with intent to supply cocaine, being concerned in the supply of cocaine and acquiring and using criminal property.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to be sentenced at a later date.
