A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency
Flood Alert in force: River Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Hampstead Lock at Yalding.
A number of road are already flooded and is possible for: The River Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Hampstead Lock at Yalding, including Smarden, Headcorn, Collier Street, Benover and The Lees may breach further.
River levels are expected to rise as a result of heavy rainfall during Thursday 3 December. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location near the river around Bethersden, Smarden, Headcorn and Yalding, and this is expected between 11:00 pm on Thursday 3 December and Friday evening. Peak levels will be similar to the flooding on 16 November 2020 and will not reach Yalding until Friday evening. The internal flooding of properties is not expected at this point. It’s understood that the environment agency expect river levels to stabilise overnight into Friday but may rise again over the weekend with more wet weather due on Saturday. The situation is being closely monitored.
