At around 5pm on Monday 30 November 2020, a man in his 20s reported he had been approached by a suspect with a knife in Lynley Close.
It is alleged he demanded cash before leaving empty handed.
A local PCSO responded to the incident and, after spotting a man near Sutton Road, was joined by officers who made an arrest. Officers also seized two knives.
Jason Barnes, of no fixed address, was later charged by investigators from the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad with attempted robbery and two counts of possession of a knife. He was also charged with one count of assaulting an emergency worker relating to an incident at the time of his arrest.
Mr Barnes, aged 47, was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 2 December.
