Barbecue Ban in London Parks After Blazing Richmond Incident
Londoners hitting the parks this summer, beware! The Royal Parks charity has slammed the brakes on barbecues and any kind of fire lighting across all its open spaces. Picnics are still a go, but fire is strictly off the menu.
Why The Ban?
The crackdown follows a serious fire at Richmond Park that sparked major damage. Falling embers and ash can easily ignite dry grass during the sizzling weather, putting visitors, staff, wildlife, and habitats at serious risk. Fires don’t just threaten people—they can devastate precious ecosystems too.
Bin It or Take It Home
Royal Parks is also warning about careless litter disposal. Visitors must bin their rubbish or take it home to avoid sparking more fires. Glass bottles are especially dangerous and can act like firestarters when left lying around.
Swimming Strictly Off-Limits—Except Here
With temperatures set to soar this weekend, remember swimming is banned in all park lakes and ponds—except the Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park, which remains open during set hours. This keeps natural habitats safe and prevents accidents.
Enjoy the Parks, Stay Safe!
Royal Parks manages some of London’s best green spots, including Richmond Park, Bushy Park, Greenwich Park, Primrose Hill, and The Regent’s Park. Visitors are urged to enjoy these gorgeous outdoor spaces responsibly to protect everyone’s safety and preserve these vital greens.
