Brutal Murder: Man Jailed for Life After Mowing Down Teen on Moped

A man has been locked up for life after deliberately ploughing into a moped carrying two young men in Enfield – killing the pillion passenger and seriously injuring the rider. Bradley Clifford, 24, of Rendlesham Road, Enfield, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 4 May, to life imprisonment with a minimum 23-year term for the murder of 18-year-old Soban Khan.

Clifford was also handed a concurrent seven-year sentence for attempted grievous bodily harm with intent on the 19-year-old moped rider. He was found guilty of both charges just days earlier, on Wednesday, 2 May.

Targeted Attack Ends in Tragedy

The horrific crash happened in the early hours of 5 August 2017. Police were called to London Road at the junction with Essex Road, Enfield, at 3:12am after a car collided with a moped. London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene.

Soban Khan, riding as a passenger, was found with serious injuries and pronounced dead at 4:38am. A post-mortem confirmed he died from multiple injuries.

The 19-year-old moped rider survived but was injured and taken to an east London hospital. The car driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but the investigation quickly escalated.

Cold-Blooded Murder Charges Follow

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command launched a murder inquiry. Clifford was charged with murder and attempted murder on 17 October 2017.

Soban’s grieving family released a heartfelt statement: “Soban was taken from us at just 18 years old. He was a great son, brother and a key part of our family. The pain is endless. We will never see him grow into the husband, father or successful man he dreamed to be.”

“His death leaves a permanent hole in our hearts. No amount of justice will ease this agony. We pray that Bradley Clifford faces full justice so no other families endure this nightmare.”

Police Speak Out

Detective Sergeant Harbir Kooner said: “While first treated as a fatal collision, it soon became clear Clifford deliberately targeted the moped and even continued to assault Soban after the crash. Nothing can bring Soban back, but today’s sentence offers his family some comfort and closure.”
