19.5 Million Drivers Hit the Roads for Bank Holiday Blitz
The RAC predicts a massive 19.5 million leisure trips by road from Wednesday to Sunday as Brits scramble to make the most of the double bank holiday.
Friday Set to Be Traffic Nightmare
A survey of 1,460 drivers reveals Friday will be the busiest day. Day-trippers join families returning from half-term, creating gridlock chaos.
Traffic experts Inrix warn motorists to avoid peak times by travelling before 6am or after 3pm to dodge the worst jams.
Hotspots: M25 and A303 Congestion Expected
- M25 anticlockwise from Junction 17 (Maple Cross) to Junction 12 (Thorpe Interchange) is primed for serious snarl-ups.
- A303 near Stonehenge is another major pinch point, as holidaymakers head to the South West.
Keep Trips Short, Prepare Your Car
Nearly 4 in 10 drivers admit they’re avoiding long drives over the extended weekend.
“Drivers clearly see a double bank holiday this close to the summer as a gift, with millions eager to make the most of it,” said RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis.
“Many are mixing short day trips with Jubilee celebrations at home. But the clash with half-term means roads could get pressured, so plan carefully to beat queues.”
Dennis also urged motorists to check their cars before hitting the road. “Make sure oil, coolant, screenwash, and tyre pressure are spot-on. A bit of TLC now could make the difference between a smooth trip and a breakdown nightmare.”
