Doctor Jailed for Botched Procedure That Killed Patient
Isyaka Mamman, 48, of Royton, has been sentenced to three years in prison at Manchester Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter by gross negligence after a patient died following a diagnostic procedure he performed.
Patient Dies After “Incompetent” Procedure
The victim, a 48-year-old woman, passed away on September 3, 2018, shortly after undergoing tests in the hospital’s Haematology Unit. An expert report revealed Mamman carried out the procedure incompetently and inappropriately.
Police Slam Doctor’s Negligence
“It is tragic that someone who went to the hospital for a diagnostic procedure… died at the hands of a doctor. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones,” said Detective Inspector Rachel Smith of GMP Major Incident Team.
“Most doctors provide excellent care, but Mamman ignored the fundamental knowledge required of a medic. This prosecution, supported by the CPS, sends a clear message that patient safety comes first.”
