Cop Sergeant Sacked for Harassment in Met Detention
Sergeant David Morton, a custody officer with the Met Detention unit, has been slammed for breaching professional conduct rules. Morton faced a misconduct hearing from 3 to 7 October after making unwanted advances towards a female police staff member he was supervising.
Sergeant Breached Authority and Integrity Standards

- Showed lack of integrity
- Allegedly treated a female staff member differently due to her gender
Detective Superintendent Matt Pilch, head of Met Detention, called Morton’s behaviour “unacceptable” and promised swift action. “Anyone working for the Met deserves to be respected and treated with dignity,” he said.
“When this behaviour came to light we intervened and took action to address it. I hope today’s decision sends a clear message to our staff and the public about the consequences of such actions.”
Met Sets Zero Tolerance Tone
Met Police emphasised their commitment to tough reform and warned that anyone undermining this will be shown the door.
Sergeant Morton will now be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List, banning him from working for any police or related bodies in the future.
