Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has criticised Tesla CEO Elon Musk for his support of Restore Britain in the Makerfield by-election, cautioning that Musk’s endorsement could split the right-wing vote.

Musk recently shared several posts on his social platform X endorsing Restore Britain, intensifying tensions ahead of the important by-election in the Greater Manchester seat.

Farage Warns Of Vote Split

Speaking to the Telegraph, Farage said: “Elon Musk has decided he will try to split the right of British politics as best he can. This is supporting a party that’s one man with a social media account. Quite what he’s trying to achieve, I have no idea.”

Farage also suggested that Labour’s candidate Andy Burnham might benefit from the division, potentially improving his chances in the by-election.

Polls Show Tight Race

A recent Survation poll in Makerfield indicated a close contest, with Labour’s Andy Burnham leading at 43% support, followed closely by Reform UK’s Robert Kenyon at 40%, and Restore Britain’s Rebecca Shepherd polling at 7%. The survey, which sampled 504 people, was described as an “indicative early look” since the by-election announcement.

Restore Britain Rejects Criticism

Restore Britain leader Mr Lowe dismissed Farage’s comments as inaccurate. Speaking to UKNIP, he said: “Farage has just gone to the media to attack Restore Britain, again. He says Elon Musk is supporting a party that’s one man with a social media account. This is where Farage is so very wrong.”

Lowe emphasised that the party represents millions of Britons and focuses on its members and community rather than any single individual.

Musk’s Social Media Push

Elon Musk recently reposted supportive messages from Mr Lowe and responded to an interview with Reform UK’s Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick by posting the phrase “Restore Britain.” This high-profile backing has brought attention to the small party’s campaign in the by-election, which could impact the contest between Labour and Reform UK candidates.
