Tragic Blaze Claims Life of 86-Year-Old in Hove House Fire

An elderly woman has died after a devastating house fire tore through a property on Kingsway, Hove, in the early hours of Sunday, 14 September.

Massive Fire Service Response

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sprang into action at 6.54am, dispatching four fire engines from Hove, Roedean, and Preston Circus. A command unit and aerial ladder platform joined the fight against the flames. Six firefighters, kitted out with breathing apparatus, battled the blaze using three hose reel jets. The aerial ladder was put to use dousing the fire from above, tackling the inferno head-on.

Emergency Crews Rush to Scene

Sussex Police and paramedics arrived swiftly, assisting with the situation. Residents nearby were warned to keep windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation. The public was urged to steer clear of Kingsway as the emergency response unfolded.

Police Confirm Fatality and Ongoing Probe

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a fire at a property in Kingsway, Hove at around 7.15am on Sunday, 14 September. The fire was extinguished, and sadly, an 86-year-old woman is confirmed to have died at the address. Her next of kin have been informed.”

The road was closed in both directions while crews worked but has now reopened. An investigation with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is underway to uncover the fire’s cause, which is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be sent to HM Coroner.
