Lightning Strike Leaves Family Homeless After Roof Blaze in Surrey
A terrifying lightning strike blasted a huge hole in a Surrey home’s roof and sparked a fire that left a young family homeless. The dramatic incident unfolded in the quiet village of Bletchingley when a bolt of lightning set the loft ablaze.
Fire Crews Rush to Stop Flames
Firefighters from across Surrey scrambled to the scene on Barfields, just off Castle Street, around 4.30pm on Wednesday. The detached house, tucked away in a peaceful cul-de-sac, suffered extensive roof damage as crews battled to contain the fire.
Neighbours Witness Shocking Strike
Neighbours saw the lightning bolt smash into the roofline and quickly alerted the family next door before calling the emergency services. One stunned resident said at first they thought it was an explosion.
“The house next door to me rocked, and my friend at the bottom of the street heard the loud crack. It was all very scary. I’m just glad the family were out,” they told us.
Family Escapes Without Injury
The young family were out at the time and thankfully escaped unharmed. However, the damage to their home means they are now left homeless after the fierce lightning strike and devastating fire.
