Hull Driver Jailed for Fatal Crash That Killed Two Boys
Jack Hart, 32, of Anlaby Road, Hull, was sentenced to nine years in prison today at Hull Crown Court. The sentence follows his guilty plea entered just before the start of his trial on 30 January. Along with his prison term, Hart was banned from driving for 13 years.
Speeding BMW Crash Kills Two Young Boys
The tragedy happened on 19 October 2020 at about 6:10pm. Hart was driving a blue BMW westbound on Anlaby Road, Hull. He was caught speeding at 57 mph in a 30 mph zone, using the bus lane while undertaking several vehicles.
His reckless driving ended when he collided with two 10-year-old boys, Stephen Duffield and Mason Deakin, killing them both instantly.
Families Speak Out: ‘Our World Stopped That Day’
“Losing our boys is something we will never fully recover from, and we would not wish this heartache on anybody,” said the families of Stephen and Mason.
“Whilst we know that Hart’s dangerous driving led to the collision that took Stephen and Mason from us, we hope something good may come from it.
“All parents and children need to understand the importance of road safety and the dangers of playing close to traffic, whether on foot or bike. We want to raise awareness to prevent other families suffering the same loss.”
Stephen’s parent added: “Our world stopped on 19 October 2020. We died the same time Jack Hart killed our son Stephen and his friend Mason.
“Stephen was only 10 and due to start high school the following September. He should be here now, watching Liverpool FC, riding his bike, or playing on his PlayStation.
“He was the youngest of seven siblings and a true social butterfly — a son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.”
“Our days are now long, dark, and silent. The only feeling we have towards Hart is anger. His selfish attitude and manipulative behaviour have prolonged our heartache for over two years.
“He refused to comment in interviews and pleaded not guilty until the day before trial when he suddenly admitted guilt without explanation.
“While we are glad Hart is behind bars, nothing can bring Stephen and Mason’s futures back.”
“We thank Humberside Police for their dedication in seeking justice for our boys.”
