A veteran skydiver was rushed to King’s College Hospital after sustaining a serious leg injury during a parachute landing at Headcorn Aerodrome on Saturday afternoon, 13 July.
Jane Buckle, manager at Go Skydive Headcorn, confirmed that the experienced jumper had completed an impressive total of 1,333 jumps prior to the accident. She and the rescue team administered first aid at the scene until paramedics arrived.
The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance responded swiftly after the South East Coast Ambulance Service received the emergency call shortly after 1pm. A spokesperson said, “We were called shortly after 1pm on Saturday to reports of a person requiring medical attention following a parachute landing at Headcorn Aerodrome.”
“Crews assessed and treated one patient at the scene for leg injuries before being joined by the air ambulance.” The seriously injured skydiver was then airlifted from the scene for urgent treatment in London.
The jumper was an experienced recreational skydiver, and fortunately, no other individuals at the airfield were put at risk. Headcorn Aerodrome has since resumed normal operations with no disruptions reported.
