HM Coastguard Romney Marsh was on routine patrol locally when the Solent Operations room scrambled them to a tense rescue at Camber Sands on Wednesday evening. Multiple people were trapped by a rapidly rising tide, prompting urgent action from emergency services.
Upon arrival, Sussex Police spotted two individuals stranded on a wreck, surrounded by water. Coastguards entered the sea, secured with tethered lines, to reach the trapped pair safely. The Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat joined the operation, playing a vital role in hauling the two individuals back to shore.
On land, the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) was ready to assist the rescued individuals. Additional support came from HM Coastguard Rye Bay and the RNLI Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station, ensuring the rescue operation proceeded smoothly and swiftly.
This daring rescue highlights the essential teamwork between emergency services along the coast. The public is reminded to dial 999 and specifically ask for “The Coastguard” if they find themselves in trouble near the shoreline.
