An ambulance from the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust encountered a challenging situation early on New Year’s Day at Camber Sands. While attending to a major medical emergency, the incoming tide began to reach the vehicle’s wheels, putting the crew at risk of becoming trapped.

Despite the rising water, the ambulance team remained focused on the patient’s care. A second ambulance arrived promptly to transport the patient to hospital, and a replacement vehicle was called in to ensure the shift could continue without interruption.

By 9am, the off-road rescue team from DJ Haulage, Hiab, Recovery, Escort in New Romney arrived on the scene with their rugged Ford Ranger and powerful winch. Using expert skill, they successfully pulled the ambulance free from the tidal trap, narrowly preventing the vehicle from being submerged.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service expressed their sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the rescue. Fortunately, the stranded ambulance was able to drive away under its own power and was ready to respond to the next emergency call.

This incident serves as an important reminder for all drivers, especially emergency responders: always check tide times before parking near beaches. Unexpected tides can pose serious risks and disrupt emergency operations.
