Two lanes of the busy M3 motorway southbound in Hampshire have been closed this lunchtime after a collision involving a car and a van. The incident has caused heavy traffic, with delays extending back past junction 10 southbound.
The crash occurred just after 11:20am between junctions 11 (Winchester) and 12 (Otterbourne). The outside and middle lanes remain blocked, leading to a substantial build-up of queues. Motorists are facing long waits as emergency teams continue to work at the scene.
This latest collision adds to the morning traffic problems on Hampshire roads, following an earlier crash on the A33. Hampshire Fire crews from Winchester and Eastleigh responded quickly, using specialist cutting equipment to free two people trapped in the vehicles. Both individuals were then handed over to South Central Ambulance Service for treatment.
Commuters travelling south on the M3 are advised to expect lengthy delays and consider alternative routes where possible.
