A notorious drug dealer in Guildford has been sentenced to more than four years in prison following a police bust. Edward Chapman, 23, who was homeless and evading authorities, was apprehended during a covert operation on June 4, 2020.

Plain-clothed officers observed Chapman acting suspiciously in a small car park off The Mount. He was the rear passenger in a taxi and was seen passing what appeared to be drugs to known users. Police intervened and searched him, discovering a mobile phone, a burner phone, a small bag containing white powder, and £640 in cash.

Chapman was charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He pleaded guilty during his court appearance on August 3. On October 21, Guildford Crown Court sentenced him to 4 years and 2 months in prison for dealing cocaine.

Investigating officer PC Adam Grindlay commented, “Chapman’s arrest and conviction shows the proactive work Surrey Police are doing daily to tackle drug crime across the county. We urge the public to report even minor signs of drug activity – like the smell of weed or strangers visiting a property late at night. These tips help us piece together the bigger picture and bring criminals like Chapman to justice.”

Surrey Police have pledged to continue intensifying efforts against drug supply networks. With ongoing community support, more dealers are expected to face legal consequences.
