A 20-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of growing cannabis plants. Following the arrest, he has been released on bail while police investigations continue.

Hampshire Police issued a warning about the dangers associated with cannabis cultivation. They stated, “Many think cannabis is harmless, but producing drugs brings hidden harm.” The police revealed that large-scale cannabis grows are often connected to organised crime gangs involved in serious violence, including the use of weapons and firearms.

The police also highlighted the significant fire risks posed by illegal cannabis farms due to their high electrical demands. “These operations can endanger neighbouring homes and lives,” the force said, emphasizing the threat to the community.

Authorities are urging the public to assist in combating drug gangs by reporting any suspected cannabis cultivation or drug-related activity. “Every call is logged and helps us build intelligence to protect your community,” police added. They stressed that action can only be taken with tips from concerned residents.
