A man suffered chemical burns and was rushed to hospital after being attacked with a corrosive substance outside Piccadilly underground station early on Sunday 11th December.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene shortly before 7am following reports of a chemical attack near Piccadilly Circus.

The victim received treatment at the location before paramedics transported him to hospital for further care.

The London Fire Brigade attended alongside medical teams, deploying their specialist DIM (Detection, Identification and Monitoring) unit to assess the hazardous substance involved in the incident.

A crime scene cordon was promptly established by police to secure the area.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A man has been taken to hospital after reporting irritation to his eyes near Piccadilly Circus station around 6.45am. The injured man did not see any substance thrown or sprayed. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

It remains unclear if any arrests have been made in connection with the attack.

The London Ambulance Service has not yet issued a comment regarding the incident.
