A tragic fire broke out in Leahurst Road, Hither Green, in the early hours of October 12, resulting in the death of a man and hospitalisation of a woman.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 3:00 am after reports of the blaze. The London Fire Brigade’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and an air ambulance all responded to the scene.
Despite their efforts, a man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 60s received treatment from paramedics before being taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The cause of the fire remains unknown as the London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police have launched a full investigation. Police confirmed they arrived shortly after 3 am and worked alongside the London Ambulance Service and firefighters at the scene.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson stated, “We sent a number of resources, including two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and London’s air ambulance.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman added, “A man aged in his 70s was found deceased. A woman aged in her 60s was taken to hospital; her condition is not life-threatening. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
