Police are investigating a savage assault that took place at Cobham Services on the M25 yesterday afternoon, where a man’s skull was caved in with a shovel.

A white Peugeot Partner van, registration NX63 VLP, equipped with a roof rack and ladder, was seen near the petrol station forecourt at around 3.20pm on June 26, close to the scene of the attack.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, sustained severe head injuries after being struck with the shovel. He was airlifted to hospital and remains in a critical condition. His family has been informed of his condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Jo Hayes said: “We need to trace this van’s route before and after the attack. We want to know who was inside and where they are now.”

She added: “We believe some witnesses have yet to come forward, including those who may have filmed the attack on phones or dashcams. Their footage could be vital.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. When reporting, please quote incident number 45170068211.
