Police have renewed their search for the attacker who brutally assaulted 87-year-old Eileen Sparks in Stretford, marking the fourth anniversary of the cold case.
On Friday, 3 February 2017, at around 2.30pm, a thug forced his way into Eileen Blane’s home on Castleton Avenue. The attacker repeatedly struck her head before throwing her to the floor and stealing her wedding ring.
Despite the horror of the attack, Eileen bravely managed to alert her neighbours while the intruder ransacked the upstairs of her home. The assault left her with severe injuries including broken ribs, a fractured vertebra, and extensive bruising.
Eileen was discharged from hospital a month later but was tragically found dead at her home on Saturday, 1 April 2017.
As the fourth anniversary of the attack passes, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) detectives continue to seek information. A £50,000 reward remains available for any tips that lead to the conviction of the person responsible.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, approximately 5ft 8in tall with a slim build. He was wearing a dark jacket with a hood that covered his face during the attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Cottam of GMP’s Major Incident Team said, “Over the past four years GMP has been committed to trying to provide Eileen’s family with the answers they desperately need. Although we cannot reunite them with Eileen, we want to ensure the person responsible faces justice.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 0161 856 9283 or Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
