A 62-year-old man was found injured behind the wheel of a red Citroen C1 on Bedonwell Road at 7.20pm on Saturday, November 12. Despite frantic efforts by emergency crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after the fatal collision, police discovered an abandoned Mercedes nearby. On Sunday, November 13, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving uninsured, and failing to stop after the crash.
Local residents have paid heartfelt tributes to the victim, leaving flowers and handwritten notes on a lamppost in Bedonwell Road. One message read, “Thinking of you and your family. We are thinking about you.” Another said, “Thinking of you from number 53.”
The Metropolitan Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward. Witnesses are asked to call 020 8285 1574.

A short time later, a Mercedes was found abandoned. A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by reckless driving, driving while uninsured, and failing to stop.”
