Firefighters from Godstone, Reigate, and Banstead rushed to a fierce house fire on Macaulay Road in Caterham just after midnight. The raging blaze smashed through the first floor and spread to the roof, with flames creeping onto a neighbouring property.
Surrey Fire and Rescue deployed multiple crews, including an aerial ladder platform and a command and control unit, to tackle the growing inferno. Surrey Police are on the scene, with an extra appliance sent from Oxted to assist. Four fire jets are in use as crews fight the fire through the early hours.
All residents have been accounted for, but the fire’s origin remains a mystery. Surrey Fire Investigators and Police are probing the incident, treating it as unexplained for now. A road closure remains in place around Macaulay Road, and nearby residents have been urged to keep windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation.
Crews are expected to remain at the scene until dawn to bring the situation fully under control and prevent further spread.
