Met Police Nab £1 Million in Cash During Major Drug Bust
Detectives from the Met’s Operation Venice Scorpion and Venice Investigation Team (VIT) have smashed a massive cash haul – seizing nearly £1 million in cash and arresting a 31-year-old man.
£1 Million in Shoe Boxes: No Ordinary Cash Stash
Detective Chief Inspector Shaun White, head of Operation Venice, revealed the staggering amount while cash was still being counted.
“While we count the cash, we believe we’ve seized close to £1 million. There’s no decent reason to carry so much money outside a bank – it screams criminal activity,” he said.
Traffic Stop Leads to Huge Haul
- The night of May 26, Scorpion officers stopped the suspect at a car park on Colney Hatch Lane, N10.
- They found £12,000 in his possession, which he couldn’t explain.
- He was swiftly arrested under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
- VIT officers then raided his Haringey home, uncovering the nearly £1 million stuffed in shoeboxes and bags – along with multiple passports.
Operation Venice: Hunting Serious Crime Round the Clock
DCI White praised the joint effort between two branches of Operation Venice.
“This joint victory shows how our Scorpion drivers stop criminals on powerful bikes and cars, while our VIT team digs deeper with searches and arrests to lock them away for good,” he said.
He added: “We work day and night to tackle organised crime in London. Those who think they can get away with it won’t get far.”
The suspect remains in custody as police continue their investigation.
