Digger Smash! Thieves Ram ATM in Hurstpierpoint Heist

At 3.45am on Saturday (5 September), a stolen digger was driven straight into the Nationwide Building Society on Hurstpierpoint High Street. Thieves ripped the ATM from the wall and loaded it into a waiting white Luton van.

The van then sped off westwards, leaving chaos in its wake.

Gang of Men Behind Bold Morning Raid

Police believe several men were involved in the brazen smash-and-grab. The exact amount of cash stolen remains unclear.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Sergeant Mark Miller said: “Enquiries are at an early stage, but we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area during the night and saw the digger heading towards the High Street, or spotted the white van. Please contact us online or call 101, quoting crime reference 208 of 05/09.”

Witnesses can also report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The High Street was closed for police investigation but is expected to reopen Saturday morning.
