Rape Shocker in Taunton’s Victoria Park – Police Hunt Suspect
Avon & Somerset Police are racing to catch a rapist who attacked a woman in Victoria Park, Taunton. The horrific assault took place overnight from Friday, 10 October, into the early hours of Saturday, 11 October.
Distressed Woman Found at Dawn, Investigation Ongoing
A member of the public found the terrified victim around 5am on Saturday and called the cops immediately. Police quickly sealed off part of the park as they launched a fast-moving investigation. While initial inquiries have wrapped, detectives stress the probe is still in its early stages.
Suspect Details and Police Plea
The victim described her attacker as a Black man in his twenties, muscular, with a beard. He reportedly approached her and they chatted on a park bench before the brutal assault.
Detective Sergeant Wendy Fellowes said: “We’re taking this incident very seriously and carrying out our enquiries at pace. Investigators will remain in the area in the coming days as we continue to follow up all available leads.”
“We’re supporting the woman and have offered her access to specialist services. I’d urge anyone who was in Victoria Park between 10pm on Friday and 5am on Saturday with any information or footage to come forward.”
Police Release CCTV Snap of Man Wanted for Questioning
Now, officers have released a CCTV image of a man spotted near the scene. He is described as Black, bearded, wearing a blue top with white lettering, a darker blue jacket, light-coloured trousers, trainers, and a baseball cap.
Police want to speak with this man or anyone who recognises him.
