Emergency services have responded to a suspicious white powder found at the constituency office of Romsey MP Caroline Nokes in Market Place, Romsey. The building was placed on lockdown as specialists began their investigation.
The alarm was raised just after midday on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from Hampshire Police. They were joined by Hampshire Fire and Rescue and South Central Ambulance Service. Staff inside the office were evacuated immediately as a safety precaution.
Fire crews deployed a specialist Detection and Identification of Materials (DIM) unit to the scene. Personnel wearing protective hazmat suits entered the office and used advanced equipment to examine the suspicious powder. Early reports indicate the substance was found inside a letter opened by an employee.
Hampshire Police confirmed the investigation, stating: “We have been called to Market Place, Romsey, following the discovery of a suspicious substance. Officers are currently at the scene with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service to deal with this incident. An address has been evacuated as a precaution.”
