Firefighters rushed to a suspected explosion at a flat in Gosport, tackling roaring flames and rescuing seven casualties. The dramatic incident occurred around 6pm on December 23rd at a two-storey property on Henry Player Avenue.
More than 30 firefighters arrived at the scene as smoke and flames poured from the ground-floor flat. Seven individuals were assessed by the South Central Ambulance Service, with one person being rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
A major fire operation was underway, involving six fire engines deployed from Gosport, Fareham, Cosham, Portchester, and Southsea. An aerial ladder platform was brought in to provide high-level access to the building.
Neighbours were evacuated as emergency teams isolated gas and electricity supplies to the property. Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reels, jets, and tactical fans to battle the blaze. Extensive damp down efforts were carried out to prevent flare-ups.
Nearby residents were left shaken by the incident and evacuated amid concerns the fire might spread. Emergency crews worked swiftly to secure the building and ensure safety.
