Chaos erupted in Grays this morning following a stabbing on Southend Road near Chadwell Road. Police have cordoned off the area, declaring it a crime scene as they continue to hunt for the attacker who remains at large.
Several key roads, including Southend Road, Chadwell Road, and College Avenue, have been completely closed to traffic. Authorities have indicated that these closures may remain in place “for the foreseeable future,” as officers and forensic teams work at the scene well into the afternoon.
Specifically, Southend Road is closed at the roundabout with Chadwell Road and College Avenue. Chadwell Road is shut near Rectory Road and Lenmore Close close to Langthorne Crescent.
Bus companies have responded by rerouting services to avoid the affected areas. Ensign buses have reported diversions on routes Z1, 73, 77, and 83, which now bypass Southend Road and Palmers Avenue in both directions. All affected buses are being redirected through Hathaway Road. Additionally, First Bus’s 100 service is also impacted by the closures.
Essex Police have confirmed that the man who was stabbed is currently battling life-changing injuries. The search for the suspect continues, with officers urging anyone with information to come forward.
