Emergency crews were called to the Premier Inn on Mercury Gardens, Romford, at around 12:43 pm on Saturday, 1 July. Upon arrival, officers found a man and a woman unresponsive inside the hotel. Despite efforts to save them, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Specialist officers were deployed after a suspicious substance was found at the hotel. Authorities are currently working to identify the nature of this substance and to assess any possible connection to the deaths, while ensuring the safety of all involved.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the investigation in a statement: “Police were called at 12:43 pm on Saturday, 1 July, after two people were found unresponsive at a hotel in Mercury Gardens, Romford. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene.”

The deaths are being treated as unexpected, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident as the local community awaits further information.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or confirmed the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing, with more details expected as officers continue to piece together what happened inside the Romford Premier Inn.
