Three Seriously Hurt After Cliff Jumping Disaster at Durdle Door
Three people have suffered serious injuries after leaping off the iconic cliffs into the sea at Durdle Door, Dorset. Emergency services raced to the scene to deal with the crisis.
Emergency Services Scramble to Rescue
Police, ambulance crews, HM Coastguard, and the RNLI joined forces to clear the area and attend to the injured. Dorset Police were called just before 4pm on Saturday, 30 May 2020, following concerns about people jumping from the cliffs.
Jason Kay from Dorset Police urged the public to steer clear of the area. “Officers are appealing to the public to stay away from Durdle Door in Purbeck as emergency services are in attendance to deal with a number of casualties,” he said.
Beach Shut as Air Ambulances Touch Down
Chief Inspector Claire Phillips confirmed the beach has been closed for air ambulances to land safely. She added:
“We have had to close the beach at Durdle Door to allow air ambulances to land. As a result, we are evacuating the beach and the surrounding cliff area. I am urging people to leave the area to enable emergency services to treat the injured people.”
With the cliff tops cleared, rescue teams continue to manage the ongoing emergency as the injured receive treatment.
