Teaching Assistant Jailed for Sex with 14-Year-Old Pupil
Hannah Harris, a teaching assistant from Henlow, Bedfordshire, has been handed six years behind bars for a sick sexual relationship with a 14-year-old pupil at a Hertfordshire school. The abuse dragged on for months before being exposed, triggering a police probe and court case.
Deceptive Tactics to Hide Affair
Harris went to twisted lengths to cover her tracks. She posed as a fake mum of a pupil to meet with the boy, even contacting his real parents pretending to arrange playdates for her ‘daughter’ with their son. The lies finally unraveled when suspicions grew and the boy told his parents, who alerted the school and police.
Conviction and Sentence
Arrested in January 2020 and charged with sexual activity with a child under 16 and possession of indecent images, Harris was found guilty of one count of sexual activity at St Albans Crown Court in February 2022. She was sentenced this week to six years in prison and will be an indefinite registered sex offender.
Police Condemn Abuse of Trust
“She clearly breached the position of trust she held as a teaching assistant. Harris knew the boy’s age and that she was committing a crime,” said Detective Constable Liam Hanrahan, who led the investigation. “She used fake names and manipulated the victim and his parents to hide the relationship.”
“I hope she reflects on the damage she caused. Anyone suffering abuse should feel safe to come forward.”
