Birmingham Man Jailed for Spreading Daesh Propaganda
Kyle Marcano, 28, from Birmingham, was sentenced to 11 years in jail yesterday after being found guilty of terrorism offences at Birmingham Crown Court in April. He was convicted on four counts of disseminating terrorist publications and one count of membership of a banned organisation.
Evidence Reveals Role in Daesh Recruitment
The court heard Marcano was active in a chat group that shared extremist material. He took an oath of allegiance to the former Daesh leader and sent terrorist propaganda, including a recruitment video.
Marcano pleaded guilty last November to multiple offences, admitting to sending terrorist publications with intent.
Arrest Linked to Unrelated Crime Leads to Terror Charges
Marcano was first arrested in March 2023 for an unrelated offence. Police seized his phone, uncovering his role in the terrorist chat group. This led to a further arrest and terrorism charges.
Another Man from Same Group Also Convicted
A second man, Muhammed Maroof, 19, also from Birmingham, pleaded guilty earlier this year to four counts of distributing terrorist material. He received a sentence of four years and 10 months.
Police Warn: Terrorism Offenders Face Tough Justice
Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst, Head of West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “The jury found Marcano guilty of being a fully-fledged Daesh member based on the evidence presented.
“Marcano and Maroof knowingly shared highly disturbing and dangerous content. We remain committed to protecting local communities by working with partners and the CPS to prosecute anyone supporting terrorism.
“Our priority is ensuring the safety and security of the people living and working in the West Midlands.”
Additionally, Marcano was handed a four-year extended licence after being classified as a dangerous offender.
