Teen Boxer Stabbed to Death on 173 Bus in Romford

Sixteen-year-old Tyler Hurley was chased onto a bus and fatally stabbed with a massive Zombie-knife just 20 minutes after leaving school. The tragic attack happened in broad daylight on March 14, sparking shock across Romford.

Chased, Trapped and Attacked with Brutal ‘Zombie’ Knives

Tyler, a Year 11 pupil and talented boxer, was stabbed twice – one wound pierced his lung through the back of his arm. The fatal blow came on the number 173 bus at 3.55pm on Chadwell Heath High Street. Unable to escape, Tyler was trapped as the bus doors closed behind him, while his friend managed to flee.

“Tyler was powerless to resist. He was unarmed and completely defenceless. The fear on his face was obvious.” – Prosecutor Caroline Carberry

Carlton Tanueh, 19, admitted carrying two large Zombie-knives but denies murder. Prosecutors say Tanueh deliberately hunted Tyler over “petty grievances” and stabbed him with a 2ft 2in weapon.

Killer’s Chilling Snapchat and Bloody Escape

  • Just minutes before the stabbing, Tanueh posted on Snapchat: “Hopped off at Heathway, had to go check out some youts.”
  • He also texted his girlfriend about visiting the “opp block” and meeting a knife supplier.
  • After attacking Tyler, Tanueh threw the knives over a garden fence and fled.
  • A “brave” member of the public chased him down and guided police to his location.

Community Mourns ‘Life and Soul’ of Boxing Club

Romford Boxing Club paid tribute: “So sad to announce the death of former Romford Boxing Club and Joes Academy boxer Tyler Hurley. 16 years old and heartbroken. Our hearts go out to Tyler’s family.”

Tyler’s mother, Veronica Hurley, said: “Tyler was the life and soul of our family. We’re still in shock and disbelief my son was cruelly taken away.” A GoFundMe page has been set up to support them.

Killer Still Denies Murder as Trial Continues

Tanueh, who has no fixed address, faces trial where prosecutors say there is no doubt he murdered Tyler Hurley. The case continues at Southwark Crown Court.
