Man Convicted of Heinous Child Sex Crimes in New Addington

A 28-year-old man has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences against a young child in New Addington. Simon John Hayden-Reno, from Cudham Drive, was convicted at Croydon Crown Court on Wednesday, 25 May.

Convicted of Rape and Multiple Sexual Offences

Hayden-Reno was convicted of one count of rape of a girl under 13 following a trial. He had already pleaded guilty to 13 additional serious charges, including:

  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration
  • Six counts of making indecent images of a child
  • Three counts of inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity
  • One count of assault by touching a girl under 13

He was found not guilty of a second rape charge involving a girl under 13.

Abuse Spanning 2017 to 2018, Victim Under Ten

The offences occurred between 2017 and 2018 mainly at a residential address in New Addington. Although not related to the victim, Hayden-Reno knew her and exploited opportunities when he was alone with the child. The victim, who was under ten at the time, bravely disclosed the abuse to her mother on 4 October 2018, prompting an immediate police investigation.

Police Investigation and Next Steps

Detectives from the South Area Child Abuse Investigation Team launched a rigorous inquiry. Hayden-Reno was arrested on 7 October 2018 and denied all allegations. Specialist officers provided support to the victim and her family throughout. Forensic examination of Hayden-Reno’s phone uncovered indecent images, strengthening the case against him.

Hayden-Reno faces sentencing later this year on a date yet to be confirmed.
