Man Sentenced to Hospital Order After Brutal Killing of Homeless Man in North Finchley

A 37-year-old man has been given a hospital order after pleading guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility for the death of Nicholas Sutin in North Finchley.

Horrific Attack on Homeless Man Near Tally Ho Pub

Jermaine Myers, of Woodhouse Road, N12, appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday, 13 March, where he was handed a Section 37 hospital order. He had already admitted manslaughter at an earlier hearing on 6 March.

The horror unfolded just after 4am on 27 May 2022, when police and London Ambulance rushed to reports of a disturbance on High Road, North Finchley. They discovered Nicholas Sutin suffering from two stab wounds and severe head injuries.

The emergency services tried desperately to save Nicholas, who was sleeping rough by a bench near the Tally Ho pub, but he tragically died at the scene.

Gruesome Details Revealed as Suspect Arrested

Myers approached Nicholas armed with a knife. He stabbed him twice before smashing a concrete slab over his head, inflicting catastrophic injuries. Forensic experts quickly linked Myers to the crime through traces found on the concrete slab.

Myers was arrested the very next day at his Woodhouse Road home. CCTV footage captured the chilling sequence, showing Myers coming to and from the scene.

Detective Speaks Out on Brutal Attack

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “The level of violence inflicted on Nicholas Sutin was significant and sustained, leaving him no chance of survival.

“From what we know, Myers was not known to Nicholas and there was nothing in Nicholas’s behaviour that could suggest he in any way provoked the attack.

“This is the final step in the judicial process and I can only hope this closure can allow Nicholas’s family to move on from this horrific chapter.”
