Ex-Cop Caught Spying on Woman in Shower
Former Detective Sergeant Benjamin McNish, 31, has been found guilty of gross misconduct after secretly filming a woman showering in police accommodation. The shocking breach of trust at the East Area Command Unit has rocked the force.
Spying Scandal Unfolds
- The incident happened on 18 February 2019 in Camden while McNish was on a training course.
- He used his phone to peer through a glass panel above the bathroom door as a female resident showered.
- The victim spotted the phone, confronted him, and police were immediately called.
- McNish was arrested at the scene and suspended from duty.
Convicted and Sentenced
On 10 June, McNish was convicted under the Sexual Offences Act for observing a private act. Four weeks later, he was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years. He must also register as a sex offender for seven years, complete a sexual offenders’ programme, attend rehabilitation, and pay £750 costs.
Following the criminal case, McNish resigned from the police.
Police Chief Condemns Actions
“DS McNish’s actions were completely unacceptable and, quite frankly, shocking,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Stephen Clayman.
“He has already resigned, which I hope shows remorse for his appalling behaviour. The public can be assured the Met will act decisively when officers fall below our standards.”
The disciplinary hearing on 25 August confirmed McNish’s gross misconduct. Had he still been serving, he would have been dismissed outright.
