Knife-Wielding Gang Launches Brutal Attack in KFC Car Park

On September 7, 2023, Alwayne Barnes sparked chaos armed with a Stanley knife. Around 3.30pm, he targeted a car full of youngsters in the KFC parking lot after he and his mates catcalled an 18-year-old woman. When the woman got into the car and the driver shot Barnes a glare, all hell broke loose.

Violent Stabbing and Punch-Up Breaks Out

Barnes lunged at the car, punching an 18-year-old through the open window. He then attacked a 20-year-old man who had gotten out, stabbing him four times in the chest, back, and shoulders. The driver tried to stop the assault, but Barnes slashed his arm with the knife.

Barnes wasn’t alone. His pals Carl Pearson, Charlene Reid, and Dale Burton joined the frenzy. Pearson and Burton threw punches, while Reid dragged the woman from the car and assaulted her.

Police Chase Down Attackers After Victims Rush to Hospital

The victims, bleeding and shaken, sped to hospital. En route, they flagged down police and gave details of Barnes’s vehicle. Officers soon tracked the gang to a petrol station on Carlton Road, where all four were arrested.

During interrogation, they admitted their roles but denied stabbing anyone intentionally. CCTV and forensic evidence told a different story, pointing directly to Barnes’s violent attack with the Stanley knife.

At Nottingham Crown Court on May 28, 2024, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC branded Barnes a “dangerous offender.” He was jailed for 12 years and 9 months, with a minimum two-thirds served behind bars plus five years on extended licence after release.
