A 15-year-old boy, whose name remains under wraps for legal reasons, faced Swindon Magistrates Court last week. He was charged with obstructing police, driving without a licence, and lacking insurance.
Teen Caught Driving On M4 Without Licence
The drama unfolded on October 26 last year. A police officer spotted the teenager behind the wheel of a Saab towing a caravan on the M4 westbound between junctions 16 and 17. Inside the vehicle were three passengers—all without valid UK driving licences.
Fool Tried Fake Identity to Dodge Arrest
When police signalled for the vehicle to stop, the teen, seated at the wheel, gave a false name and claimed to be 22. His bluff failed, and he was promptly arrested and taken into custody.
Guilty Plea and Lenient Sentence
The Irish youngster from County Clare admitted all charges last week. Due to his lack of funds, no costs were ordered. Instead, he received a four-month conditional discharge and was slapped with a £20 surcharge.
PC Luke Hobbs blasted the teen’s reckless behaviour: “Not only was this boy just 14 with no driving licence, none of the three passengers inside had a valid licence either. Their actions could have had devastating consequences. It’s lucky no collisions occurred because of such stupidity.”
