South Wales Police’s specialist Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) uncovered sickening images of children on the phone of Marc Phillips, a 43-year-old man from Aberdare. The discovery came after police acted on tip-offs regarding illegal uploads originating from his home.

This month, Merthyr Crown Court sentenced Phillips to three years and nine months in prison. In addition to his jail term, he was issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Phillips initially denied any involvement in the offences. However, forensic examinations revealed seven indecent images on his device. Furthermore, he had shared some of these images with other offenders. Confronted with this evidence, he subsequently pleaded guilty.

Detective Constable Cheryl Jenkins of the POLIT team commented on the case, stating, “Real children suffer the worst abuse creating these images. Viewers fuel demand, causing more abuse with lasting damage to victims. Our POLIT team relentlessly hunts down offenders like Phillips who wrongly think their online crimes go unseen.”
