Brutal Kidnapper and Rapist Jailed for 17 Years in Haringey
Shock Attack on Woman in Broad Daylight
Nathaniel Mundle, 23, from Bounds Green, Haringey, was locked up for 17 years at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, 7 April 2020. The savage attacker had previously confessed to kidnap, rape, and false imprisonment back in October 2019. Alongside his prison sentence, he was slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The terrifying ordeal unfolded around 4pm on Wednesday, 25 September 2019. A woman in her 40s was walking past Mundle’s home when he struck from behind. He beat and strangled her until she blacked out, then dragged her inside where he raped her while unconscious. The nightmare didn’t end there – he held her captive for over an hour.
Victim Escapes & Calls for Help
Despite the horror, the brave victim managed to flee and flagged down a neighbour. Emergency services rushed to the scene; the woman was hospitalised with serious injuries. Police initially found Mundle had fled but arrested him at his home just after midnight the next day.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery, Strike Down Dangerous Predator
“This was a shocking, premeditated assault in which a woman was violently attacked,” said Detective Constable Lydia Polydorou-Evangelou from the North Area Command Unit’s Safeguarding Team.
“I want to thank the victim for her courage in escaping and helping us capture this dangerous individual. Thanks to her, he’s now off the streets and can no longer harm anyone else.
“I’m very satisfied with the sentence. This case shows how seriously we take such allegations.”
