Darren Nicholas tried to evade police by claiming a dog caused his partner’s injuries, but officers saw through his excuse. The victim fled after an alleged brutal assault, prompting swift action from Dyfed-Powys Police.

On March 10, a neighbouring police force alerted Dyfed-Powys Police when a woman arrived at hospital with a suspected broken pelvis. She reported that her partner had seriously assaulted her. Officers discovered the victim had managed to escape from the 36-year-old suspect during the attack, which had taken place five days earlier.

Police launched an urgent manhunt for Darren Nicholas, who lives in Park View, Llanelli. He was apprehended the following day. During questioning, Nicholas bizarrely blamed a dog for the injuries sustained by the victim.

Detectives were not convinced by his story. Following further investigation, Nicholas was charged with unlawful wounding causing grievous bodily harm. He appeared at Swansea Crown Court on April 25.

Nicholas was sentenced to 15 months in prison for this attack. Additionally, he received a sentence for another unrelated grievous bodily harm charge from a separate incident in Llanelli. In total, he will serve 33 months behind bars.
