Gay Dating App Robberies Spark Police Hunt

Since September 2022, several victims have been lured through a gay dating app, only to be attacked and robbed by gangs waiting at the meet-up spot.

Victims Urged to Come Forward

Police suspect more people have been targeted but stayed silent due to the sensitive nature of the attacks. They are now urging all victims to step up and report the crimes.

Five Arrested But Still on the Loose

Five suspects have been arrested over the robberies but were released on bail, with strict conditions imposed.

Detective Warns of Coordinated Hate Attacks

Detective Constable Jessica Benham said: “This is a nasty series of coordinated attacks in which victims have been targeted because of their sexuality.

“We believe there could be more victims who, for various reasons, have chosen not to report.

“We understand that being a victim of a crime like this can be a distressing and isolating experience, and that reporting may seem daunting, but there is specialist support available to help victims move on.”
