Alan Aldous, 35, a drifter with no fixed address, has been charged with two burglaries and was wanted on recall to prison. He appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 4 February and was immediately remanded in custody. His next hearing is scheduled for 6 March at Swindon Crown Court.
Aldous is accused of stealing expensive jewellery from a home in Chippenham on 30 January. He is also linked to a break-in at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy on 2 February, just days after the initial incident.
County Chief Inspector Ben Huggins praised the collaborative police effort that led to Aldous’s arrest. He said, “This was excellent work across neighbourhood teams, response units, and force operations to track Aldous down and connect him to the crimes.”
Inspector Huggins added, “CID then gathered the evidence and secured charges through the Crown Prosecution Service. Burglaries are among the most invasive crimes. It’s a top priority for us to keep people feeling safe in their own homes.”
