A woman in her 70s was targeted and robbed shortly after getting her COVID-19 vaccine in Whitefield. The incident occurred on Sunday 28 March at 8:55am when the victim returned to her home on Rectory Green and a man snatched her mobile phone and bank card. Fortunately, she was not physically harmed but was left shaken by the ordeal.
Shortly after the robbery, police officers spotted a man believed to be the suspect on Bury New Road. A dramatic chase ensued, during which the suspect resisted arrest, forcing officers to use a Taser and baton. During the struggle, the man sustained a head wound but managed to escape. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
Investigators have revealed that the suspect claimed his head injury resulted from a domestic incident; however, no evidence of medical treatment has been found. Authorities believe he may be sleeping rough and was last seen resting atop scaffolding.
Police have also released an image of another man who was seen near the Metrolink at Prestwich on the day of the robbery. They are urging anyone who recognizes him to come forward.
Detective Constable Donna Haldane from GMP Bury’s CID said, “Our investigation into this robbery is ongoing. We are expanding our search as new information comes in.
