Shoplifter’s suspended sentence snapped up after fresh theft spree
Serial thief caught after raiding town centre shops
Martin Morgan, 36, from Whitworth Road, was first arrested on March 7 for a string of shoplifting offences across Swindon. His targets included the Co-Op in Old Town and Cheney Manor Road, Marks & Spencer, and Boots in Brunel Plaza.
He faced eight counts of theft totaling over £3,000, plus five breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from town centre premises.
Prison sentence suspended — but Morgan strikes again
After being remanded in custody until March 8, Morgan was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. However, just days later on March 10, he was arrested again for breaching his CBO by entering Boots in Brunel Plaza and stealing nearly £400 worth of goods from Wilko’s at The Parade.
Magistrates slam thief with lockdown prison term
On March 11, Morgan faced Swindon Magistrates Court and was hit with a 12-month and two-week prison sentence – activating the suspended term.
“Morgan is a prolific offender who has previously been jailed for similar offences and has failed to learn from his mistakes,” said PC Paul Bezzant.
“I hope his time behind bars will make him reflect on his actions and the impact they have on hardworking business owners in the town.”
