Hampshire Police have charged a man after a terrifying fire broke out at a BP petrol station in Lee-on-the-Solent, which also resulted in the death of a dog.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 4 December, when witnesses saw a man wielding an axe on the forecourt of the BP station located on Broom Way. Shortly afterwards, a fierce blaze erupted, engulfing several vehicles and petrol pumps.
Firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Service and paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service quickly arrived at the scene. They found a man suffering from serious burn injuries who was promptly taken to hospital. Sadly, a dog was found dead amid the damage caused by the fire.
Tyson Charlie Nevin, 51, from Spicewood in Fareham, was arrested and charged with multiple offences including arson with intent to endanger life, arson, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
Nevin appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 31 January 2026. He has been remanded in custody ahead of his hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court scheduled for Monday, 2 March 2026.
