Tragedy struck at around 10pm last Saturday outside the Bay Horse on Sanderson Terrace, Cramlington, when two men were hit by a van. Police were called to the scene after reports of the collision.
Despite paramedics’ desperate efforts, Sheldon Flanighan from Northumberland sadly died at the scene. The second victim was rushed to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
Following a swift investigation, police arrested three people connected to the crash. All three have now been charged with the murder of Sheldon Flanighan and the attempted murder of the second man. The individuals charged are:
- Toby Kelly, 37, of Wansbeck Avenue, Blyth. Kelly also faces an additional charge for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
- David Fairclough, 32, of Emerson Road, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.
- Shannon Wooden, 27, of Blyth.
They appeared at Bedlington Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
Northumbria Police issued a statement saying: “We will be carrying out further enquiries in the Cramlington area today and ask anyone with concerns or information to get in touch. Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this tragic incident. We ask for their privacy at this difficult time.
“We have charged three people and are working hard to piece together what happened in the crucial moments before and after the incident. While investigations continue, we urge the public to avoid speculation on social media and encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
