Boy Chased by Two Men in Black Van on Whitmore Road
Police were called at 4:40pm on Friday, April 30, after an 11-year-old boy was nearly snatched while walking home from school in Whitmore Road, Bromley.
The youngster was approached by two men in a small black van who asked if he wanted a lift. Spotting danger, the boy bolted into a nearby park – but the men gave chase.
Heroic Save from Tennis Players
The boy ran towards two men playing tennis nearby and warned them he was being followed. At that, the suspects fled the scene. The shaken boy made it safely home and alerted his parents.
Thankfully, he was unharmed but deeply rattled by the frightening ordeal.
Police Launch Investigation as CCTV Reviewed
Superintendent Andy Brittain of Bromley’s South Area BCU admitted the initial police response “was not sufficient” given the serious nature of the incident. Detectives are now investigating thoroughly and reviewing CCTV footage to track down the suspects.
He said: “I want to reassure the boy’s parents and the local community that we are fully committed to uncovering what really happened.”
The two suspects are described as white males – one about 5ft 10in, the other roughly 6ft tall.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Superintendent Brittain urged anyone who saw the incident to come forward, especially the two men playing tennis who helped the boy.
No arrests have been made yet. The investigation is ongoing under the South Area Command Unit CID.
